The Arkansas Society of Radiology Technologists recently awarded Life Member to Betty (BJ) Palmer RT (R), ARRT, LNMT. Mrs. Palmer currently serves as Member at Large on the ArSRT Board of Directors. She has fulfilled terms as Secretary and Vice President among many other responsibilities within the society. In 2008 she was awarded the ArSRT Technologist of the Year.
Mrs. Palmer said, “I have never regretted going into the Radiology Field at the age of approximately 14.” BJ began working as a candy-striper transporting patients and learning to develop films in the wet tank darkroom. Later she completed the Radiology program in Little Rock at Arkansas Baptist Hospital from 1965 to
1967. Her career includes nine years at Dallas County Hospital in Fordyce, AR before moving to Kansas where she was employed at Augusta Medical Center for three years. BJ returned to Dallas County Hospital for an additional three years before relocating to Houston County Hospital in Georgia. BJ has proudly been at Ouachita County Medical Center in Camden, AR for almost 26 years. There she serves as Nuclear Medicine supervisor, mammography technologist, with some Ultrasound and CT support. BJ loves her OCMC family from the CEO down!
BJ is married to Jimmie Palmer. She has four children: Michele Casey of Lawrenceville, NJ; Carrie Lynn of Houston, TX; David and Jon Paul Ramsay both of Fordyce, AR. BJ is a member of the Zion Baptist Church in Fordyce. She enjoys camping, hunting, fishing, sewing and cooking. The most enjoyment for BJ comes from her 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
